There are two words to describe Zoe Saldaña when you see her on the big screen: Blockbuster Gold. For an actress that seems to have unlocked the secret to capturing the hearts and eyes of audiences worldwide, Saldaña defies the Hollywood star cliché by remaining humble and down-to-earth. In light of her recent miniseries hit, From Scratch, ranking as a top watch on Netflix, and Avatar: The Way of Water news buzzing on the horizon, it’s no wonder that we have chosen to highlight this wonderfully talented leading lady.

A native East Coaster, Zoe Saldaña spent her early years living in Queens before relocating to the Dominican Republic with her family following the tragic passing of her father. There she began dancing, an entrance into the arts that she would cultivate further upon her return to New York at the age of seventeen. During this time, Saldaña found joy in several theater groups and guest appearances on shows like Law & Order.

Appropriately, her cinematic debut in the ballet-centered dramatic film, Center Stage, allowed her a base to later star in some of the highest-grossing films of all time (most notably James Cameron’s Avatar, The Avengers saga, J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars).

Apart from her motion picture success, Saldaña has also advocated for all things à la mode within the fashion and beauty industry. Not only has she been showcased countless times across the spreads and media feeds of top magazines and editorial brands, but she is also credited with co-founding My Fashion Database (colloquially mentioned as MyFDB) to better traffic the fashion marketplace for creators in the business.

While off-the-clock and out of the limelight, Zoe Saldaña is a dedicated wife and mother. Given the personal connection she shares with her recent Netflix series heroine, as both she and her character fell in love with Italian men, perhaps movie-goers will have a chance to see this accomplished actress featured in even more close-to-home hits.
